Insulating Pool Blankets & Reel Systems

Pool Insulating Blankets
MacBall Heat Saver Insulated Pool Blanket System Ian Coombes Ltd manufactures the MacBall Heat Saver Insulating Pool Blanket System. This system reduces pool operating costs dramatically, with options available for residential and commercial pools that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor situations.

Since 2003 we now manufacture and laminate our own MacBall Heatsaver thermal blankets. Each blanket is made with a tough top and bottom layer of UV resistant woven polyethelene with a crosslinked polyethelene foam sandwiched between for increased strength and durability.

In 2006 MacBall Heatsaver 8 was upgraded with increased strength and insulation values for longer lasting performance. This product is avaliable in an increased foam thickness if required.

All MacBall Heatsaver blankets come edged with reinforced eyelets and an optional wind resistant edging to ensure that your blanket will provide many years of service.

As of Janurary 2007, Ian Coombes Ltd has supplied insulating pool blankets and reel systems in excess of:
  • 341 Commercial outdoor facilities in New Zealand and Australia
  • 191 Commercial indoor facilities in New Zealand and Australia
We have also supplied residential blanket and reel systems to over 400 home pools since 1998.

Copies of MacBall user lists are available on request along with technical information on the blanket construction as well as heat saving properties etc.

The MacBall Heat Saver Insulating Pool Blanket and Storage Reel System offers a practical, cost-effective method to greatly reduce heat loss. Heating, water replacement and maintenance costs are substantially reduced through effective insulation and evaporation control.

MacBall Heat Saver Insulated Pool Blanket System Evaporation, conduction, convection and radiation are responsible for up to 90% of the heat loss from swimming pools.

The proven MacBall Heat Saver can reduce evaporation to near zero and because it insulates, it also substantially reduces convection and radiation losses. Stopping evaporation cuts heat loss and saves on make-up water requirements and costly chemicals.

The MacBall Heat Saver Blanket is fabricated from a tough, tear-resistant laminate that is non-permeable, non-toxic and chemically resistant. The unique construction with interlocking end and edge treatment, load distributing plates and double-needle lock stitch fabrication far exceeds industry standards.

The MacBall Heat Saver Blankets offer the following benefits:
  1. A bound reinforced edging all around the cover
  2. Reinforced eyelets
  3. An optional weighted edging for outdoor pools. This greatly reduces wind problems, but the cover can still be easily rolled up on a reel system
  4. Draw ropes supplied
  5. Superior heat retention qualities
  6. Superior life span compared to other systems. Expected lifespan of 7 to 10 years. At this stage we have many commercial blankets with a lifespan exceeding 10 years
  7. The blanket comes with a standard warranty of three years
  8. As we manufacture them, we can easily service them if required
  9. The Heat and Energy Saver Insulating Pool Blanket is also light in weight and with a good reel system it only requires one person to deploy and retrieve the covers from the pool
Reel Systems
MacBall winding and storage reels, which can be operated manually or automatically with remote controls, are engineered for strength and durability and consist of stainless steel framework and non-corrosive self aligning bushes. Mobile Reels feature stainless steel footbrake casters with easy-run polyurethane wheels. MacBall Heat Saver Insulated Pool Blanket System

The MacBall Heat Saver Blanket is fabricated in easy to manage panels. The blanket can be easily attached to a portable storage reel, which itself can be positioned on the deck or conveniently hidden from view within the deck or a handy bench seat

We pride ourselves on being able to offer a broad range of reel systems from standard models to design build options that reflect both pool facility design as well as client needs etc.

Autowind System
Autowind with Underbench Reel

The Autowind System is designed and manufactured in house for use on both stationary and mobile reel frames. This system offers a versatile unit that is safe and easily handled by all staff.

The Autowind uses a drive system that couples easily to the reel frame that is used to retrieve the blankets from the pool.

To deploy the blankets onto the pool the Autowind is wheeled to the opposite end of the pool from the reel system and the cover is winched onto the pool via a draw cord. This operation is easily and safely achieved through user friendly controls on the Autowind unit.

The unit houses a 24V Gel cell battery and an in-build trickle charger ensuring the unit is always ready for use. It features,

 - Height adjustable to drive all types of reel frames
 - Deploys a 50m cover in less than 3 minutes
 - Built in Battery Charger
 - All Stainless Steel Construction

MacBall Heat Saver Insulated Pool Blanket System The MacBall System provides an excellent return on investment. Most systems pay for themselves within the first 18 months of use and continue to make financial savings with environmental benefits long after the initial investment is recouped.
