Saunas For over 2,000 years people have enjoyed sauna bathing as a way to help assist in their health and wellbeing. To keep this tradition alive, Ian Coombes Ltd is proud to offer the FINNLEO range of sauna rooms and associated products.
Ian Coombes Ltd is the sole New Zealand agent for Finnish FINNLEO Sauna and Steam Products. Finnleo is the world's largest sauna company, manufacturing and supplying saunas for over 100 years.
A full range of FINNLEO Design Sauna and Steam Products are available to suit individual requirements. The authentic, traditional look and feel of high quality design and materials are the trade-mark and value of FINNLEO products.
These products are well known, very popular and held in high regard throughout Europe and in many other parts of the world. Because these are modular in construction, they are flexible in design for permanent or relocatable suites for both new and existing buildings.
A sauna is essentially a timber-lined room that is heated to approximately 85°c. The sauna offers a very dry heat with relative humidity usually within the range of 5 to 20%.
The sauna user, by adding small amounts of water to the sauna rocks generally controls the amount of humidity within the sauna room.
These rocks, which are contained in the top of the sauna heater, are hot so the water is instantly turned into steam, which in turn raises the relative humidity of the room.
The heat of the sauna causes sweating, which releases toxins from the body, burns calories and conditions the heart.
Anxieties, stresses and the troubles of everyday life melt away as the bather relaxes in the soothing comfort of the sauna. There is no better way to take time out, become more relaxed and soothe away sore muscles.
The sauna experience can be a personal enjoyment, or equally shared with family and friends. FINNLEO saunas are helping people feel relaxed, refreshed and better every day.
Why choose a FINNLEO Sauna or associated Sauna Products from Ian Coombes Ltd? Firstly and foremost, it has to be the undoubted quality of the FINNLEO product compared to other, sometimes cheaper alternatives.
An honest "apples with apples" comparison between FINNLEO and its competitors, will easily show the differences.
These differences are not only aesthetic, in many cases they can bear a direct influence on the longevity of the product, both in terms of aesthetics, functionality as well as structural integrity.
Couple the FINNLEO quality with the experience Ian Coombes Ltd has built up through being a long term manufacturer and supplier of FINNLEO sauna rooms/products and you have a resulting package that is superior in many ways to competing brands.
Ian Coombes Ltd will not only supply a quality product or finished article, their three regional branches in the main centres allows a country wide coverage for prompt and efficient after sales service.
What options are available? Ian Coombes Ltd offers a range of options when considering the purchase of a sauna. These options fall into the following broad categories:
- A standard range of indoor saunas as per the enclosed guide, either available as build on-site or kitset options.
Twenty standard sauna kitset models are available, ranging from Type A (1 to 2 person) through to Type U (8 - 10 persons), as per the floorpans. Click for larger image.
- A single outdoor, relocatable sauna that is well designed for New Zealand outdoor conditions.
- Design build options where the sauna can be custom designed to suit a particular existing space or area.
- Supply of materials only. PLEASE NOTE, this option is only available to purchasers who are having their own builder complete the sauna construction, or those who can demonstrate the ability and confidence to carry out the construction themselves.
While the construction of the sauna only involves basic building and carpentry skills, it is usually beyond the ability of most "weekend DIY handymen".
All saunas have the following basic heater and control options:
 External Controller |
- Wall or floor mounted electric sauna heaters are available in either single, or three phase options to suit the energy supply available on-site.
These heaters are all available with either an in-built controller or with an optional external controller that is mounted on the outside of the sauna.
- Wood burning sauna stoves are available but it must be remembered that these units are not suitable for clean air rated areas such as Christchurch.
These heaters come into their own where the sauna is to be installed away from densely populated areas that have abundant supplies of firewood. They can also be an ideal option to consider where there is not a suitable electricity supply and the cost to upgrade is prohibitive.
 Sauna Rocks |
All sauna heaters, whether they are electric or wood burning, come complete with specialised sauna rocks. These rocks serve a dual purpose.
Firstly they provide a thermal mass that the heater can heat up so that the heat is evenly and effectively radiated throughout the sauna.
Secondly they provide a protective cover over the elements as they glow red hot when the heater is in operation.
They also stop any of the water that is applied to the rocks from directly coming into contact with the heater elements, as this is detrimental to gaining a long life from them.
All saunas are supplied with:
-
 Scandanavian Spruce
 Aspen |
Interior lining in Scandinavian Spruce T&G. Depending on the design of the sauna this timber may also be used in one or more of the external walls of the sauna. This timber is machine grade and offers a superior machined finish that is not out of place in any level of internal décor. The timber is light in appearance giving the sauna a clean and vibrant feel while offering unsurpassed levels of longevity and function.
- The standard door offers an insulated sandwich design, which allows superior insulation while offering a very strong and sturdy door without cumbersome weight. The door is lined both sides with Scandinavian Spruce T&G and the design incorporates a vertical window glazed with bronze laminated safety glass. The door also features door handles crafted from Sapele to finish off the traditional sauna "look".
- Benches are supplied, usually in a two level format, offering spaces for users to both lie down in as well as to sit. Benches are usually 500mm in width and our standard heights for the benches are at 500mm for the low bench and 800mm for the high bench. All benches are constructed from Aspen timber due to its low heat retention qualities and resistance to staining, along with the fact that it is a sustainable resource.
- Backrests, constructed from Aspen are also included on the walls above the benches so that the sauna lining timber is not stained from perspiration etc.
- Headrests are also constructed from Aspen so sauna users lying down on benches can do so while maintaining a safe and comfortable position.
- A heater guardrail is also constructed from Aspen so that the heater is shrouded in an attractive and safe surround.
-
Duckboards are supplied that are constructed in Aspen so that the floor of the sauna offers a safe and aesthetically blended surface that compliments the total sauna "look".
- A bulkhead light fitting that takes a 240-volt; 40-watt lamp is supplied. This light fitting meets the requirements of the relevant New Zealand electrical regulations. This light fitting is shrouded with an attractive wooden diffuser so that the overall look of the sauna is not compromised.
Many optional extras are available to compliment finished sauna rooms so that the finished product maintains the traditional sauna look and function. All of these products are available as individual items or as a complete "sauna kit". These products include:
- Combined Thermometer and Hygrometers. These attractive wooden and glass units are designed to accurately display the air temperature and relative humidity within the room. This is an important aspect to controlling the sauna so that an optimum temperature and humidity can be reached and maintained without compromising the safety of users.
- Sand Timers. Elongated glass egg type timers filled with sand and attached to an attractive wooden frame are available. These timers are very important so users can easily keep track of the time they have been using the sauna so that they do not exceed safe limits.
- Buckets and Ladles. Attractive wooden buckets with PVC liners are available along with long wooden ladles. These provide an attractive store for water within the sauna as well as a safe means for this water to be applied to the hot rocks.
