Create you own wellness retreat -with the addition of a Home Sauna

Posted July 26, 2023

Stepping into the warmth of a sauna on a cold day is incredibly comforting to the senses, and even more luxurious, is not even having to leave the house to do so, with the installation of your very own home sauna.

Sauna Culture History

Saunas have been used for centuries throughout the world, and in many countries, sauna culture is an integral part of everyday life.  The exact origin of the Sauna is disputed, but many believe the Finnish people, have the edge, with the first recorded sauna in 1112 being a "hole in an embankment"!  In Japan, the traditional hot spring baths or "Onsens" share similarities with the concept of saunas.  However, Japan's  Onsen sauna culture was interestingly sparked,  by the Finnish athletes bringing their sauna equipment to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics,  and the blending of the Onsen and Finnish bathhouse cultures.

Today, we are fortunate to not have to "bring your own shovel" or even travel outside our own homes to enjoy the many health benefits of a sauna. Home saunas can be as rustic, minimalist, bespoke, or luxurious, as your style, space, and budget desires.  The other wonderful thing about Saunas, is they are not discerning and work for most people. You can be a high-performance athlete or recreational weekend stroller, and still glean, all the health benefits from a regular, daily, or weekly sauna routine.

How a sauna works

A sauna creates an environment of high heat and low humidity, typically using a heat source ( sauna heater ) to warm the air. The primary goal of a sauna is to induce sweating, which offers many health benefits, including relaxation, improved blood circulation, and detoxification.
