Pool space in Canterbury is a valuable resource and with the region's growing population, swimming pool lessons and specialised training facilities are in short supply. Combine this with the fact King's Swim School had outgrown its existing swim school premises at 109 Main South Road and the best choice decision was to build a new, larger, purpose-built facility, to cater to the growing number of learn-to-swimmers, through to the Kings Swim School elite non-disabled and para-athlete swimmers, coached by Todd Mason, Chris Elson, and Rolly Creighton.
The new Kings Swim School resides 2.2 km up the road, at 218A Main South Road, nestled next to DA Lewis and Chipmunks, and offers a balmy warm learn-to-swim pool at 25 x 4m and a larger, ramped easy-access, lap swimming pool at 25m x 13.5m. These two new, purpose-built water spaces, allow Kings Swim School the versatility to host children's pool parties, adult learn-to-swim classes, parent and babe classes, Master's and Triathlon specialist training, while at the same time growing the Vikings Competitive Swim Club and providing international level performance coaching to the talented pod of four, elite youth swimmers.
Coombes Aquatics became involved with this new pool build at the concept stage and like all good things- it took some years to turn this vision into a living, breathing, modern, swimming pool water space. The sprung tent-style structure enclosing the new swimming pool is a vibrant, stylish, cost-effective, alternative to building a traditional all-year-round aquatic facility enclosure. Create Limited was responsible for the design and engineering, HMC Construction Limited for the building works and sprung installation, and Coombes Aquatics for the pool water services including filtration and automatic chemical control, heating, ELBE membrane installation, thermal pool covers, pool tank finishing and the installation of the sleek stainless-steel railing and ladders.
